Laila
“Laila”, the thicker version of my “Lale” design, is a relaxed, loose-fitting sweater with drop shoulders and a stripe pattern.
It features an interesting, but simple construction: After the center pieces of back and front have been knitted bottom-up in horizontal stripes, the side panels are added with the stripes running in a different direction, which has a flattering effect. Increases on the center pieces, starting above the waist, automatically shape the slope of the sleeves.
Yarn & gauge
Needles: Main needle size is 3,75mm; 2,5mm and 3,25mm needles are used for edges; 4,5mm for bind-offs.
Gauge: 22 sts x 30 rows in Stockinette (so a stripe repeat of 18 rows has a height of 6cm).
Approx. 800/ 850/ 950/ 1050/ 1150 m of a DK (or Sport) weight yarn needed, distributed between 600/ 630/ 700/ 770/ 840 m main color (MC) and 200/ 220/ 250/ 280/ 310 m contrast color (CC).
To complement the oversized, slightly boxy shape of the sweater, it is recommended to use a yarn with a lot of drape, i.e. containing Alpaca, silk or linen.
For my sample, I have used the brand-new “Das Mondschaf Leo DK” yarn (not yet in Ravelry database), a blend of all three of those (50% Alpaca, 25% silk, 25% linen, 250m/ 100g), in colors “Lucille” and “Fuchur”.
The sweater should be worn with at least 10cm ease at the hips. Worked at a gauge of 2 sts less on 10cm, the piece will become approx. 1 size bigger.
