L’Air Du Temps is an airy, comfortable boatneck pullover that can be enjoyed during the wonderful breezy days and evenings of Spring - something that can be easily “popped” over top of a light T-shirt or blouse.

The boatneck style pullover came to prominence in the 1920’s and, by the 1930’s, became a fashion staple widely attributed to Coco Chanel. The texture is inspired by “broomstick lace”, thought to originate in the United States by early settlers travelling west in covered wagons to a better life. The women would make blankets using a handy broomstick as their crafting tool.

I like to take vintage or traditional knitted styles and give them a modern twist. The outcome is an easy, casual look with a feminine touch of lace.

The pullover is worked seamlessly from the top down and offers both short or long sleeve versions. The front is cast on and worked to the underarm. The back is picked up from the front for each shoulder with the neck cast on in between and then worked to the underarm. The front and back are then joined and the body is worked in the round. The sleeves are picked up along the armhole edge and worked down with a few increases to create a slight bell shape.
