An elegant shawl can become one of the most important accessories in a knitter’s wardrobe. On cooler days it can be draped and overlapped comfortably around your neck and shoulders, and on lighter spring and summer days can be pulled into use as a bit of elegant protection from a stray breeze. And for those occasions when casual attire simply isn’t enough, there is nothing like lace to amp up your outfit – and the attention!

The Lakeshore shawl is a welcome lace project for knitters comfortable with the basics of lace stitches looking for a slightly more intermediate challenge. Experienced and newer lace knitters alike will enjoy the familiar structure of a triangular shawl worked from the top outwards, and the “resting” rows of purl stitches on the wrong side. Choose 2 skeins of your favourite colour of Tanis Fiber Arts silver label mulberry silk, or your preferred silk or wool-silk laceweight or light fingering weight yarn.

MATERIALS
• Tanis Fiber Arts Silver Label Mulberry Silk, 100% mulberry silk, 500m/550yds per 115g/4 oz skein 2 skeins (sample shown in Garnet), OR 850 yds of preferred laceweight or light fingering weight yarn
• 3.5mm needles, 24” circular (for working flat)
• Stitch markers (ring style recommended, without charms)
• Tapestry needle
• Blocking pins

GAUGE
20 sts/ 24 rows over 4 ins in Antique Lace pattern on 3.5mm needles, after blocking.

SIZING
Completed shawl measures 72 ins across top and 36 ins from top to bottom down centre point of shawl, after blocking.

Size is best altered by changing needle size to change gauge.

SKILLS
To execute this pattern, knitters will be required to:
• Work knit and purl stitches
• Work basic lace elements (yarnover, single and double decreases)
• Work flat
• Read and work from a chart
• Work a knitted-on edging
