I wanted to make a smaller, light weight, alternative to a shawl; something that could easily be pulled from my bag and protect my neck from the sun. The idea made me think of the neckerchiefs worn by the Land Girls as they worked the fields.

The idea is a simple one, I wanted more width than length, and so I included a narrow lace panel running up the middle with the remainder worked in gentle garter stitch.

I chose a simplified wheatsheaf lace motif in homage to the insignia of the Land Girls who had inspired the design and finished it off with a simple but effective picot edge.

The shape of the neckerchief allows the ends to be tied easily or, you could even choose a vintage woggle to secure it, as I have done.

I really hope you enjoy knitting this neckerchief as much as I did, the gentle rhythm was so soothing.
