Norway is in the Land of the Midnight Sun as the northern part of the country is above the Arctic Circle where the sun shines 24 hours a day starting mid-May through mid-July.

My mother and I went to Oslo, Norway when I was a teenager. I have vivid memories of us arriving on May 17th, their annual Constitution Day, when masses of people were celebrating in the flower-lined streets while we tried to maneuver our jet-lagged selves with bulky suitcases to the hotel. While in Oslo, we enjoyed delicious food, especially at a corner restaurant that we frequented for several meals. Being a teenager, I didn’t fully appreciate the historical places that Mom took me but I was quite smitten with the fancy hotel bathroom and mile-high bed!

Oh how those nights getting ready for bed were magical as we’d draw the heavy, dark curtains closed to out the bright ‘midnight sun’.

LAND OF THE MIDNIGHT SUN SHAWL is a cozy one, an enchanting piece to knit, and a unique layer to add to your wintry shawl rotation!
