Lane Shift Beanie is an ode to road work that I’m sure we’re all familiar with (at least in America). Let’s all visualize it together. Imagine driving down an eight lane wide highway with road construction going on. You see the sign, “ Lane Shift Ahead,” and suddenly at 60mph, everyone gets to do the highway version of the Cha Cha Slide, “Veer to the left, now veer to the right. Everybody stop their car.”

Lane Shift Beanie is the third pattern in a three pattern “progressive knitting” series. This pattern builds upon two skills that were introduced in the Lift A Twist and Slip Up Beanie patterns, and adds on a third knitting element. The original skill introduced is how to do a k1, p1 left twist without the need of a cable needle, or having to release live stitches off the needles. My special twist technique is built upon throughout each additional pattern by adding in new elements. Each pattern can stand alone, and the base technique is taught the same in each pattern, which allows for the patterns to be knit in a fun progression, or independently. This pattern is actually the original inspiration for the entire series, even though it comes last.

The pattern is written for four yarn weights and each weight’s pattern is written independently, so you only have to print the pages you need. Each weight also includes written and charted instructions.

Skill Level: Intermediate/Advanced Intermediate - Knowledge of cables and twisted stitches is helpful to understand the special left twist technique used for this pattern.
