Lantern Hat and Cowl
A hat & cowl duo with two options: one- or bicolored. Both options are knit from the same pattern, and use the same technique (there is a photo tutorial in the PDF). There are no slipped sts, no stranding, and no arans; everything is easy.
In case you’re curious about the yarn I used for the prototypes, it is all Malabrigo Metamorphosis Sock, Merrakech and London Alley. While the yarn itself is very beatiful, it is not the best for this pattern because of the speckles. You can still use it if you purchase the yarn is person (not online), as some dyelots are more speckled than others.
Materials:
-circular needles that can hold 150sts comfortably: 2.5 mm needles for the ribbing, 3mm needles for the main pattern. - fingering-weight yarn. For 1-color hat with single-layer ribbing: 50g (200m) of yarn; for bicolored hat with double ribbing: 65g (260m) of yarn total, about 1/2 of each color. For the cowl as shown (single-layer, the same width as the hat): 65g. Use solid or gradient yarn; avoid the yarn with too much speckles as they might obscure the texture.
- 1 faux fur pompom 8-10 cm in diameter.
Gauge: 1 diamond is 4.5X4.5 cm unstretched. The fabric is VERY stretchy, especially in width!
Size: the hat is 22cm tall and 25cm wide measured laying flat. It is stretchy; there’s no need to add width even if you plan to add the lining to it.
