Lantern Waste Mittens
These bottom-up mittens are inspired by C.S. Lewis’ book The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Like the story itself, the mittens have an idyllic side and a scary side: The back-of-hand pattern shows Lantern Waste, the cozy place in the forest where Lucy meets Mr. Tumnus the first time she visits Narnia. The palm pattern shows the wolf Maugrim, captain of the White Witch’s secret police, a symbol of the totalitarian regime governing Narnia at the time.
Pattern provides instructions for both seamless and seamed cuff edges, as well as an optional texting thumb modification.
To make these mittens, you must be able to: Cast on, knit stranded, increase, decrease, and do duplicate stitch embroidery.
Size after blocking: Width 10cm/4 inches, length 30cm/11 ¾ inches.
