Lanterns
Lanterns. We light them to help see in the dark. I wanted to name this shawl something to remind myself to see the light in the dark winter months.
I often make my own bees wax candles and use them to light up little glass lanterns around my house. A little control over the dark as it comes so early over here on the west coast.
Lantern, from the Greek “lampein” meaning ‘to shine.’ is to remind myself that it’s okay to thrive.
There are two versions of this shawl. The twisted (orange version) and the untwisted (grey version).
Both are awesome, the untwisted version is a bit nicer for folks who aren’t used to twisting all of their stitches (it can be quite a switch over). The twisted version is so beautiful though as the twisted stitches provide such amazing stitch definition. And the inspiration for this shawl was absolutely my love of twisted stitches.
Both of the versions are able to be modified to make them larger or smaller by repeating Chart B or Chart D as many or as few times as you’d like. I’ll go into more detail about this later, but just keep it in mind that you can alter the size of this shawl quite a bit.
Gauge:
For the twisted (orange) version:
One leaf is measured 1 inch accross at the widest part and 1.5 inches long from stem to tip of the leaf. Weird way of getting gauge but you’ll be able to measure it
after you’ve completed the first chart.
Twisted shawl size is 80” wingspan x 40” deep at deepest point.
For the untwisted (grey) version:
One leaf is measured 1.5 inches accross the widest part and 2.5 inches long from the stem to tip of the leaf. Weird way of getting gauge but you’ll be able to measure it
after you’ve completed the first chart.
Untwisted shawl size is 74” wingspan x 37” deep at the deepest point.
What is this Make 1 Weird you speak of? Take a look over here, I explain it in a handy video! Make 1 Weird explained.
