Laplandia
“Laplandia” is a stylish oversized jumper (pullover) with long sleeves, dropped shoulder and carefully curved neck, worked from bottom to the top as a single piece in rounds until armholes, then front and back sections split and we work in back- and forth- rows to shape neck and shoulders, then we pick up stitches from the armholes and go down the cuffs for the sleeves.
The pattern is written in standard English knitting terms and requires certain skills, such as:
knit, purl, tbl k, tbl p, ssk, k2tog, double stitch (appears when we make short rows for the neck shaping) and working left and right-leaning twists with or without cable needle.
Thought the stitches used are quite easy, the jumper consists of multiple Aran patterns which certainly requires attention and time to make, so it’s for experienced knitters.
The pattern is calculated and carefully tested for 2 sizes, based on finished chests:
Size 1 – 130 cm 51.2 in; Size 2 - 152 cm 60 in chest circumference.
Laplandia is designed to have 25-50 cm 10-20” ease around chest, but you’re free to adjust this parameter.
You will have to obtain my gauge: 23 sts х 27 rows in stockinette stitch on the larger needles after blocking and 21 sts х 30 rows for the central pattern.
Yarn: Fingering weight, around 1725 / 2000 yds (12.25 /14 oz) or 350 / 400 g
I used Lapо (32% Baby Alpaca, 27% Merino, 41% PA; 225 m / 50 g);
You can use whichever yarns if you obtain the gauge.
Needles and notions: Circular knitting needles 3,5 mm US 4 and 4,00 mm US 6 with 40 and 60 cm cords 15” and 24” for the neck and all ribbings, 4,00 mm US 6 with 60 cm cord 24” for the body and sleeves, cable needle, removable stitch markers, measuring tape, tapestry needle (to hide loose ends), row counter and scissors.
If you obtain the gauge with another needle size, please, have a half size smaller ones for shoulders, neck and cuffs.
24 pages of pattern Laplandia contain:
construction of the item with measurements in cm and inches
charts and written instructions for the patterns used
videos of the steps to help you make sure you’re doing right (not a whole sweater step-by-step, but tricky moments on samples)
detailed instructions for each step of the work.
