Lara Scarf
The Lara Scarf is a beautiful layering piece, designed to add visual interest and a little bit of drama to your outfits. Lara uses a unique shape and fun techniques to shape a collared scarf that drapes effortlessly around the neck. The thick brioche fabric is cozy and warm, with enough structure to hold its shape. The firmness of the brioche still allows for some drape, which lends itself well to the scarf’s front flaps, which curl with the wearer’s movement in a beautiful cascade.
Lara’s construction is unique. Shaped like an arch (think “Arc de Triomphe”), the piece is cast on at the top, then worked down to the end of each scarf section one side at a time. It’s a flat, seamless knit, with gradually bound off stitches forming the inside of the neck. Once the inner neckline has been carved out for the wearer, each draping piece is knit one at a time, with the other side being placed on hold until its turn to be completed. Slip-stitch and I-cord selvedges give a lovely look to the edges, while providing additional structure to the fabric.
To wear Lara, the collar is folded lengthwise (hot dog way, for those who need the visual) and then draped around the neck. The top corners of the piece become flaps in the front of the body, acting as a large, lapel-like collar. The sides drape down the front of the wearer, lending style (and warmth!) to any outfit.
