Pattern Description from Victorian Lace Today: “Mrs. Gaugain’s very pretty (and Simple) shawl pattern appeared much later in Weldon’s as a pattern for A Square Shawl with Spider Pattern Border and Insertion. Using Mrs. Gaugain’s Spider Pattern with the later border (now knitted-on instead of sewn-on), I chose a rectangular shape for this new shawl.”
