I love leaves! This no-name, no-image pattern from ca. 1875 The Lady’s Book of Knitting and Crochet, p.90 has a 7-stitch, 12-row repeat. Except for the selvage stitches, all the wrong-side rows are purl across. The stitch count remains the same on all rows. The swatch is 5 inches wide and 5.25 inches long.
It takes about 1 hour to knit 2.5 inches of a 39-stitch-wide swatch.

Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, yarn over, SSK, k2tog, and bind off in knit stitch.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.

80 yards of #10 crochet thread will make about 10 inches of a 39-stitch-wide strip in the stated gauge.
