Las Playas
INFO
The inspiration for this shawl comes both from the Spanish landscape and from the Spanish wool used for the sample. Sand ripples on the beach suggested the name of ‘Las Playas,’ which is triangular in shape and which, despite its cabled appearance, is actually an all-over lace pattern.
The version of Las Playas shown here is knitted with just three skeins of a soft, wooly, rustic yarn made from the fleece of Spanish sheep and called ‘La Rinconada,’ in the Niebla colorway. A small family business, ‘Wool Dreamers,’ produces this yarn in an ecological manner from María Pía’s flock of multi-hued merino sheep.
For your own version, try this special yarn or another one that you treasure, and enjoy making your own richly patterned accessory.
A stretchy bind-off provides a neat finish to the graphic design, which is easy to work from fully written-out directions with stitch counts, as well as a schematic and an easy-to-read chart.
