Using US 17 (12mm) needles and some of our favorite super-chunky-weight wools, a muffler can be knit up just in time. More tailored, it’s a great gift for the men in your life (or for anyone who prefers a cozy muffler to a cowl). Given all the irresistible yarn options, it’s a good thing they’re such a quick knit.

We tried versions in seed stitch and handsome 2x2 ribbing. We used Rowan Cocoon double-stranded for a chunky look. (Try using two different colors for luscious marling.) We also made single-strand versions using Rowan Tumble and Rowan Big Wool. These yarns are lofty, soft and easy to knit. The chunkiness of the yarn makes simple stitch patterns really pop!

We set the width at 6” and, depending on the yarn, got lengths of approximately 6–8’. Make it the length you like with the yarn you love!

Pattern was updated in November 2014 to include a mistake-rib stitch pattern version.
