This headband was created to compliment the Late Bloomer Mittens I had knit as part of Natural Ewe’s Fall Floral Knitalong. I started with full skeins of each merino and mohair, and was left with approximately half when complete. This inspired me to create a whimsical winter headband that would complete the ensemble. All yarns used were dyed botanically, creating the perfect bouquet!

The headband is knit in stockinette stitch in the round. A strand of Yarn A (merino) is held together with a strand of Yarn B (mohair) as you knit. After casting off, the headband is embellished with embroidery in complementary colours, holding Yarn C (merino mini) double with Yarn B (mohair), alternating colours to create bursts of flowers along the temples. These embroidered flowers are created using the satin stitch, and it would be a great way to use mini skeins or scraps. You’ll have enough yarn left to make a matching pair of mittens!

Sizes: S (M, L) 56 (58, 60) cm / 21.25 (22.75, 23.50) inch
If you are in between sizes, I recommend sizing down.

Needles: 5.0 mm (US 8) circular needles for magic loop

Gauge: 18 x 22 rows = 4” (10cm) in stockinette stitch after blocking. You may need to go up or down a needle size to obtain gauge.

Yarn: Sample was knit with the following Natural Ewe Yarns: Yarn A: GOTS To Have It (Fingering weight, 100% merino; 115g / 400m) shown in Tamarack Trail
Yarn B: Halo (Lace weight, 75% mohair, 25% silk; 50g / 420m), shown in colourway Honey
Yarn C: Echo Minis (Fingering weight, 80% merino, 20% recycled nylon; 25g / 100m)
