Late to the Party
This lovely beaded clutch, pencil case or notions bag with owl cable has 2 options for sewn linings - one with velcro and only a bit of sewing for beginner sewers and a zippered version with a lovely placketed pocket for more advanced sewers.
If you are unsure about the sewing, please e-mail me at fkennington@mac.com and I will provide you with a free copy of the sewing tutorials.
The version available for purchase has abbreviated and charted knitting instructions as well as the sewing tutorial for either lining.
Materials:
Either Version:
Yarn: Approximately 90 meters (98 yards) aran wool such as Luxury Collection Fine Merino Superwash Aran; scrap yarn
Notions: thread; 40 beads to fit over 2 strands of yarn, 6mm are used in sample
Tools: 5 mm (US 8) 40 cm (16”) circular knitting needle (or size needed to obtain gauge); spare circular knitting needle; tapestry needle; small length fine wire or fishing line; pencil or tailor’s chalk; pins; sewing machine; iron; ruler; fabric scissors; tissue paper (optional); tape (optional)
Version With Basic Lining:
Quilting Fabric: two rectangles cut 2.5 cm (1”) wider and 1.3 cm (½”) taller than the knit bag when laying flat*
Notions: Velcro, ½” wide by approximately 25 cm (10”) long
Version With Advanced Lining:
Quilting Fabric: two rectangles cut 2.5 cm (1”) wider and 1.3 cm (½”) taller than the knit bag when laying flat, two 5 cm (2”) x 15 cm (6”) rectangles, one 20 cm (8”) x 15 cm (6”) rectangle*
Notions: Zipper with plastic teeth, 25 cm (10”) or longer
If buying the fabric in advance of knitting the bag’s exterior, buy 23 cm (9”) of non-directional fabric the width of an average bolt and you will enough for the project plus some extra. A fat quarter should also provide sufficient fabric.
