Gary the Gator is a little sleepy right now, so now it’s time to say “see you later alligator!”. Then, if Gary’s not too sleepy, he might say “after ‘while crocodile!”. This baby lovey is especially sentimental to me because these are phrases my dad and I used to say all the time when I was a little girl. I’ll admit it, I was Daddy’s Girl. My dad was in the Army when I was little. Anytime he left, I always needed that extra reassurance that he would be back, so he would always say “see you later alligator!” and I would say “after ‘while crocodile!”. Then, “after ‘while” he always came back. It’s a fun game to play with babies and toddlers who are struggling with separation anxiety or have difficulty falling asleep without Mommy or Daddy.

Your purchase of this digital crochet pattern will include a 10-page PDF with instructions on the corner to corner blanket, legs, claws, head, tail and a brief demonstration on how I sewed the parts.

This pattern is written using American terminology.

The plushie parts are worked in continuous rounds, but the blanket is not. Please read each section carefully before you begin!

Upon using #3 weight yarn and a 3.25(D) hook, your blanket will be 12”L X 12”W. Be sure to check gauge. Each box st should be ½”L X ½”W. If you’re using thicker yarn, try to make the box sts as square as possible for best results. Plushie parts will be the approximate dimensions:
Head: 3.5”L X 2.5”W X 2.5”D
Tail: 3.5”L X 2.5”W X 0.5”D
Leg: 2”L X 1.25”W X 1”D

Skill Level:
These instructions are for an intermediate level crochet pattern with the assumption that you are already familiar with all of the crochet terms listed in the ‘abbreviations’ section. It has also been designed with the assumption that you have prior experience making crochet and amigurumi products. With that being said, I am more than happy to answer and assist with any questions!

Material Needed:
3.5mm crochet hook
Darning needle
Stitch markers
Poly-fil stuffing
Black crochet thread

Yarn Specifications:
Any #3 or #4 weight yarn will work. This type of pattern is typically worked in acrylic or cotton yarn. It has been tested in chenille yarn which works great if you are aiming to make bigger plushie parts.

I used Stylecraft Special DK in the colors listed below. If you’re using the same color throughout, one skein should be plenty so long as all part are worked in single strands.

Happy Hooking!
