Recommended materials include:

  • 2 hanks Blue Sky Alpacas Worsted Cotton in #638 Dandelion
  • 3 hanks Blue Sky Alpacas Multi Cotton in #6801 Marmalade
  • 2 hanks Blue Sky Alpacas Worsted Cotton in #629 Ladybug
  • US 15 24” (or longer) circular needles
  • US 15 straight needles (optional, you can use the circulars to knit the blanket back and forth)
  • US J or K crochet hook

Skills needed include picking up stitches, knitting vertical/intarsia stripes, knitting into the front and back of a stitch, and crocheting a chain stitch embellishment.

The blanket as show is knit with two strands of worsted-weight, but Tricia says it’s easy to substitute a heavier yarn and knit with a single strand if you prefer.

NEW REVIEW 3/16/11 from Living Crafts Magazine, Spring 2011: “Some of the designs in this book are so unique and so perfect for a new baby that they seem commissioned by Mother Nature herself…”

NEW REVIEW 3/14/11 from Publishers Weekly: …“Drake, founder of TrickyKnits, captures a festive mood in this collection of hand knit baby gifts. Beginning knitters will welcome the explicit directions and speedy results; experienced knitters will enjoy experimenting with chunky knits for tiny newborns…The results appear deliciously complex, yet the designs are relatively straightforward.”
