Lathyrus
This pattern is written for babies from 3 month sized through children size 8. The sweater can be made either as a pullover or a cardigan, and in colors suitable for a boy or a girl, making it is a very versatile pattern. Because the yoke is made with variegated yarn it gives the look of Fair Isle without all the work. The top down one piece construction makes this pattern the perfect pattern for a knitter with little to no sweater experience.
Please Note: The yoke and body are knit with yarns of slightly different gauges. I did not adjust the sweater because I thought the fullness of the sweater added to the style. Hence, they have what we call positive ease in adult garments. Since this isn’t nearly as common in kids wear, I have provided the true chest measurements which when compared to standard sizing charts are larger than normal chest measurements. The models are my grandchildren. They are all pretty thin and even on them, the sweaters don’t look to large. Cardigan is upsized slightly more (by the width of the button band) to allow it to be worn over other garments. If you are concerned, try the sweater on your little prince or princess as you go and reduce by applying decreases at both underarms until you get the desired fit. That is the beauty of knitting top down! Techniques required to complete this sweater are: basic knit and purl stitches, casting on and binding off, knitting in the round, increases and decreases.
Sizes pictured are 4 - Gisela is modeling.
Pullover is a size 8
