Notes From the Designer:
Inspired by a summer breeze, Lato – the Polish word for summer – imitates the movement of the wind passing over a corn field on a beautiful summer day. The wrap features two different sections separated by a transition segment. Both sections are repeated a total of four times using different color combinations. Their lacy characteristics create an open structure, which is interrupted by the solid transition segment that prepares the color change for the following section. A front post single crochet row at each end gives the wrap a more rigid edge to avoid curling. Optional tassels can be added for a more romantic finish.
The luxurious blend of baby alpaca, silk, and yak makes Vellum Fingering the perfect base for shawls and wraps. Its soft feel and blocking performance gives accessories a beautiful drape. It is an ideal choice for crocheted items with occasional stiff attributes.

- Lato is a rectangular wrap worked flat in rows. The wrap features two different sections that are repeated four times in the same order but using different color combinations. In the Aligned V section, you will work double crochet-v rows so that the V’s appear on top of each other in every row. The Wave section imitates the movement of the wind by applying the height difference of single, half double, double, and treble crochets. Both sections are separated by a transition segment that prepares the color change for the following section. Front post single crochet rows at the start and end help to prevent the edges from curling.
- All four colors will be neighboring each other, so you want to ensure enough contrast between every color.
- Because I am a tight crocheter, I highly recommend checking your gauge against mine to ensure that you have enough yarn to complete the design and reach the desired measurements.
- The pattern includes written instructions, as well as a chart at the end of the PDF.
- The length and width of the wrap can be adjusted individually, but note that the sample used up approximately 1,360 yds (~ 340 yds of each color). For a longer or wider version, you’ll potentially need additional yarn (Aligned V section: multiple of 3+7, Wave section: multiple of 16+5).
- If desired, tassels can be attached to each corner to give the wrap its final touch.
- Check out this video for instructions on how to make tassels.
