The Laufey scarf features a beautiful leaf pattern. The pattern looks equally good on both sides of the work so you can wrap it around your neck with either side facing the world.

Sizes: Although the dimensions and amount of yarn are given as a reference, the scarf can be worked to a size of your liking, just continue working in pattern until you reach your desired size. Two sizes are included in the pattern:

  • Smaller; 28 x 66 cm / 11 x 25 1/2 in
  • Larger; 58 x 115 cm / 22 3/4 x 45 1/4 in

The smaller scarf wraps once around the neck with the center facing forward and the ends tied at the back. The larger scarf wraps twice and can be tied at the front.

Gauge (for reference): Approximately 18 sts. in stockinette = 10 cm / 4 in. You could also choose yarn with a different gauge and make your own version of the scarf, either thick and juicy from bulkier yarn or fine and delicate from fingering or lace yarn.

Needles: Long circular needles no. 5 US size 8 or a size that gives the right gauge relative to the chosen yarn.

Yarn: The blue scarf is knitted using two strands of CaMaRose Midnatssol (25 g = 200 m) in the Jeansblå color (one skein). The beige scarf is knitted using two strands of Cashmere Me from Gepard (25 g = 175 m) color nr. 142 (three skeins). You can easily use another type of yarn and knit with finer or larger knitting needles but if you do you cannot rely on the sizes and the amount of yarn given. We recommend using natural fibers. The amount of yarn is based upon the given gauge and that knitting is done with two strands. If knitting is done with only one strand of worsted weight yarn, you can halve the yardage.

Difficulty level: The pattern requires knowledge of basic knitting techniques such as casting on, working knit and purl stitches and binding off. You will be working according to a pattern diagram with yarn overs, double central decreases and purling 3 sts together. Tips and explanations are incorporated in the pattern description, as well as a chart, links to tutorials and other useful information.
