I created this pattern for my friend, Laurel. She is a busy lady (aren’t we all) and she has desk work as well as ‘moving-around’ work. But she is often chilly, not enough for a sweater, and especially chilly around her neck and upper back.

So she wanted a something that wasn’t a shawl and wasn’t ‘too much’ and wouldn’t restrict her arms or shoulders but would cover her upper chest/back areas. So we noodled around with some ideas and defined how far down (in back and front) she wanted to be covered. And came up with this cowl! A sort of baby poncho.

I made these with two different colours each. But, of course, you could make it with one solid colour or one variegated.

It can be worn with the points in front/back or on the shoulders. It can be bunched up or not. You could embellish with buttons, brooches or small shawl pins.

It can be worn during the day, out for an evening or even as a scarf under a jacket.

I think this cowl would also be great made with sparkle yarn or beaded yarn.

It would be a nice gift for an office/computer person, along with some matching fingerless gloves.
