Lava Lava Island Shawlette
The Lava Lava Island Shawlette is named after the destructive power that Kilauea has been unleashing on the Big Island of Hawaii recently. Please keep the people of the Big Island in your prayers. The shawlette is knit on the bias in an asymmetrical triangular shape from side to side beginning with only 7 stitches. The lace that is incorporated into the design is Japanese Serpentine Waves, and the border forms automatically from this lace at both of the bottom sides of the triangle without having to work a separate border. I knit this shawlette with only one skein and 400 yards of fingering weight yarn, but it could be worked in anything from lace weight through DK. Once blocked, the shawlette is slightly over 6 feet in length, and is 18.5 inches at its deepest center point. Full written instructions, row counts, and charts are included in the pattern.
