Lavender Farm Socks
designed by Christina Blount Presnell

Summer breezes whisper through a fresh lavender field, creating waves of tonal colors that send fragrances out across the valley. This pattern was inspired by the White Oak Lavender Farm in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. The Lavender lace pattern represents sprigs of fresh lavender and the colorways suggested best capture the display of color that greets you as you drive into the Lavender Farm.

Lavender Farm socks are suitable for an enthusiastic intermediate sock knitter. They are knit from the toe-up in a 16-stitch lace repeat, and use the Sweet Tomato Heel developed by Cat Bordhi. The pattern is written for a medium women’s shoe. It can be adjusted for different sizes by increasing or decreasing 16 stitches at a time, or more easily by adjusting the needles size to suit. The leg length is 8”, which can also be adjusted to suit individual preference by adjusting the number of pattern repeats (a 12-row repeat). Interesting techniques are incorporated throughout the pattern, along with the Sweet Tomato Heel, Judy’s Magic Cast-on, Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind off, and a Yarn Forward Increase. I’ve included written instructions and video references for each of these. This is the featured project for the Yarn Mountain Sock Club, July 2013.

Please contact me if there are any questions about the pattern.
Thank-you!
