This is a delightful, rustic set consisting of a hat, removeable hat band and matching scarf. The basic hat is knit double-stranded in a worsted weight yarn and features a rolled brim, while the matching removable hat band is knit single strand of the same yarn in a contrasting stitch pattern. (I used Berroco’s Ultra Alpaca for my set.)

The scarf and hat band feature a co-ordinating textured stitch pattern, and the crown of the hat is decorated with knitted leaves. Both the hat band and the leaf decoration are embellished with buttons.

I originally designed this set for myself for my first autumn on the farm. I wanted a hat and scarf that would be rustic enough to be appropriate for walking around in the woods, by the river, or around the farm. I also wanted them to be pretty enough that I could wear them to go out to dinner in the nearby village. This set, in the yarn I chose, fit the bill perfectly.

The removeable hat band provides added warmth when needed, but also adds a slightly bulky look to the hat which I rather like.
