There are two versions of this pattern available. Please be sure you obtain the version you prefer:
June 2024 version: available in the magazine in UK terminology. See link for correction of errors in the repeat instructions of both main section and border of pattern as it appears in the magazine.
December 2024 version: sold by the designer in the Made with Love and Fibres Ravelry store including two separate versions for US and UK terminology each with hand drawn charts for both left and right handed makers plus notes on modifying the pattern for a circular shawl/tablecloth or custom colourways.
Joanne Fowler’s delicate cover-up is perfect for the balmy summer season. Wear it over anything from gowns to sundresses.
Inspired by lavender and white lace, this shawl is a delicate, yet dramatic accessory that will add elegance to a simple, classic outfit, top off your beachwear or provide the perfect finishing touch to evening or bridalwear.
The open lacy stitch pattern produces a drapey fabric while the cotton yarn provides a crisp finish. The border is crocheted sideways onto the main section and flares slightly which creates a wonderful swirling movement when caught by a breeze or as the wearer moves around.
The pattern’s varied stitches are designed to maintain the maker’s motivation and interest throughout and the open texture is pleasant to handle and ensures the piece works up quickly.
Sizes: one size
Tension: Stitch tension varies from row to row as is often the case for circular motifs. Outermost round of main section has tension of 22 sts in 10cm.
Row tension: two 4 row reps of main section measures 12cm / 4.75”; two 4 row reps of border measures 8cm / 3.25”
Working method: The semi-circular main section of the shawl is constructed in rows working back and forth around the central point on the straight edge. A border is then worked around the curved edge, which is created in petal-like strips, slip stitching one end of each row to the outer row of the main section. Finally, a narrow border is worked along the straight edge
