Lavender Loveliness Shawl
This is a Lovely Lavender gradient pattern with an open work mesh appearance. It is a perfect light cover up for a cool spring and summer evening. Only Chain and Single crochet stitches were used which makes it a great beginner pattern! Depending upon the yarn you choose the finished shawl stretches to an additional length of 1 - 4 inches. With Caron Cakes the stretch was only 1 inch without blocking; no blocking was necessary. I recently worked this pattern using Caron Simply Soft and the finished size was 47” and draped to the top of the elbow. The shawl with the fall colors was made using Premier Sweet Root Beer Pop and an I hook. I also recently worked a shawl from this pattern using Peaches N Cream Cotton yarn called Strawberry Stripes (see photo). If you choose to work with Peaches N Cream yarn, be aware that it needs to be made “colorfast” so that the colors do not bleed (fade) onto one another. I tested this particular yarn using this method - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcZteQyEooo. Here are my notes from trying this method with cotton hats -
“Double the recipe from the video for use in the washing machine on low water level setting. After soaking for a couple of hours, I washed and rinsed as usual to remove the vinegar odor. Allow to air dry.
I did this with several hats and the dye held.
I did this with my pink and white shoulder shawl (Strawberry Stripes) and the pink did bleed a little onto the white. It was okay since the yarn is variegated and I had to look really hard to even find the slight fade.“
