Layer Cake Cowl
This was originally a mystery KAL for the San Luis Obispo Yarn Crawl. It is now complete!! Please feel free to post photos!
This project is called the “Layer Cake Cowl”, or as I like to call it “five layers of fun!”. This cowl is not only beautiful, it’s really fun to knit. There are five layers, each using a different knitting technique. It’s easy enough for the adventurous beginner (to quote Bonnie), but there’s enough detail to keep the attention of more advanced knitters.
You will need two colors of DK or Worsted weight yarn - a solid or tonal and a skein of self striping or variegated. Contrast is your friend!
There are two sizes to choose from:
45” x 11”: really long for my friends who like to double up there cowls to be super cozy. (You know who you are!) You will need about 315 yards of solid or tonal (color A) and about 100 yards of self striping or variegated (color B)
23” x 11”: smaller for those who don’t! This takes about 200 yards for color A and 75 for color B
I used size 9/24” circular needles to get a nice drapey texture. If you are a loose knitter, you may want to go down a needle or two.
