Crochet a pair of pretty mittens for Spring or Fall when it’s not too cold, or if you live in warmer climates and don’t need something very warm for your hands.
This crochet pattern is available for free on my website or you can download it here as a print-optimized, ad-free PDF for your convenience.
Difficulty:
Easy
Materials Needed:
4.5mm hook, or hook needed to obtain gauge
220-225 yds #3 weight Bernat Baby Sport yarn in “Baby Taupe”, “White” or color of your choice
5 yds #3 weight Bernat Baby Sport yarn in contrasting color for slip stitched edging (optional)
Yarn needle
Scissors
Stitch markers
Stitches Used:
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
sc2tog = single crochet 2 together
3dc cluster = dc3tog in same st
BPsc = back post single crochet
BPhdc = back post half double crochet
Additional Terms:
hdc in the 3rd loop - Look at the top of the stitch, and locate the sideways “V”, bend the stitch to look at the back and you should see another “V” made by the “yarn over”. You’ll be working into the back loop of that “V”. This is called the 3rd loop.
Picot: ch 2, sl st back into first st
st/sts = stitch/stitches
sp/sps = space/spaces
prev = previous
sk = skip
Gauge:
7 hdc in 2”
Measurements:
10 1/2” long (picot trim), or 10 3/4” long shell trim), by 3 1/2” wide across cuff and fingers. Mittens measure 5” across at widest point.
Additional Notes:
-ch-1 at beginning of round does not count as a stitch
-This mitten should fit the average woman’s hand. You may be able to adjust the size a little bit by going up or down a hook size.
-Your seam should run straight along the thumb-hole side of the mitten. Your left and right hand mitten pattern is the same.
-A note about the yarn: I have noticed that the white yarn in this particular brand (Bernat Baby Sport) tends to be a little thinner than the “Baby Taupe” color. You are welcome to try other brands of #3 yarn if you do not like how the “White” yarn comes out.
