Join us for the Color Packs & Stash Scraps Knit-along Jan. 1 - Feb. 28, 2016!
This hat pattern was designed to showcase that gorgeous yarn that you don’t want to disguise with fussy stitch patterns or hide away in color work. These stripes are as interesting as they are clever, using crossed stitches to create a faux crochet chain at the beginning of each new stripe.
Finished hat sizes are 17” (19”, 21”), which are intended to fit heads that are 17.5-19.5” (19.5-21.5”, 21.5-23.5”). If a less-slouchy fit is desired, simply knit to the length measurement of the instructions one size smaller that the size you are following.
Fingering-weight yarn is held double throughout this pattern, which results in a cushy, cozy fabric. Gauge (with yarn held double) is 19 sts x 30 rows = 4” x 4” in the pattern stitch (stockinette stitch with a “chain stitch” round worked every 5 or 6 rounds.
The Yarn:
My sample hat used the “Iachos Rainbow Set” from A Hundred Ravens (www.ahundredravens.com) • 100g / 400 yds • 7 mini skeins • approx 47 (52, 57) yds of each color.
Other Materials:
US Size 2 / 2.75 mm circular needle
US Size 3 / 3.25mm circular needle
one traveling stitch marker
cable needle (optional)
Techniques Used:
• Knitting in the round
• 1 x 1 cabling (crossing one stitch over another)
• Increases (Kfb) & Decreases (K2tog)
Thanks so much, Elin76, for test knitting this pattern!
