Lazuli Bunting-crocheted bird pattern
This sweet little Lazuli Bunting is a beautiful bird and seen throughout the Western US. I used fingering weight yarn and my finished bird measures 4.5”(11.4cm) long from head to tail. The bird weighs about 1/2 ounce (14g) stuffed so that gives an idea of the small amount of total yarn needed. The pattern is easy crochet but does have embroidery embellishment.
Gauge is not important but having a very tight fabric is. Use a smaller hook than what you would normally use for the weight of yarn. If the crocheting is not dense, the stuffing will show through and that ruins the look of your bird. Any weight yarn can be used, just have all the yarn in each bird be the same weight. Wool yarn works best and if the wings or tail curl a bit, they can be blocked or steamed which can’t be done with acrylic yarn.
