L&D Fronds & Fishies
This is a crescent lace shawl constructed of a scalloped border section that is knit sideways, topped by a vertically knit section that is shaped to fit over the shoulders. The look is striking, but the knitting should be straightforward.
The most complicated section of the knitting, the wide bottom border, is knit back-and-forth as a straight unshaped piece. The increases to shape the shawl are then incorporated in a small short-rowed section that contains a simple lace pattern knit perpendicular to the border. Once the shaping is complete, the lace pattern continues in a straight section to build the shoulder area of the shawl. Finally, the open cable motif used as part of the larger pattern is repeated as the bind-off border.
There are some new aspects, such as lacy cables, for those who are used to simple cable knitting, while the pattern has enough diversity to keep the interest of those used to complex stitching.
