L&D Wedding Cake
This is a half-circle shawl constructed of alternating horizontal and vertical lace pattern sections. I named it ‘Wedding Cake’ because it is knitted in tiers and the lace is as ornate as the elaborate icing you find on such a cake.
Other than the lace patterns, the knitting is straightforward. For all but a few rows in one pattern, only the right side contains patterning. The increases to shape the shawl only occur between pattern sections. There is no shaping while knitting the lace patterns. There are some new aspects for those who are used to simple lace knitting, while the pattern has enough diversity to keep the interest of those used to complex stitching.
The pattern has been written based on the mathematics of ‘pi’ shaping. As such, any changes in length should be made to the
section using the Tier Three chart. If you want to make your shawl larger, you can add an additional pattern repeat. as noted in the Finishing section. You will need the larger amount of yarn if you add a pattern repeat, of course. Both charts and written (uncharted) directions have been provided for the lace patterns.
