There again, a pattern with a funny name ! Le Velu means «the hairy one» in French.
I love to chat with my testers team, and we often talk about the funny names I should give to my next patterns. I love it. One of them said «what about Le Velu?»I thought this would be the perfect name for my new mohair hat !

Knit from ribs to crown, it has a lovely brioche pattern figuring cables through the top of the hat. I wanted a large ribs edge to accentuate the beret shape, and add a little forehead adjustment so it fits perfectly the head. The beret shape is obtained thanks to an extra repetition of the chart, if you remove it, you get a slouchy beanie shape.

This pattern includes :

• a forehead adjustment (so the ribs edge stays where it should)
• a hair adjustment (for people with thick hair like curly, frizzy, kinky, voluminous…)

Material

Yarn : Sport weight.

The sample was made with a mix of fingering (Love sock from Les jolies de Milie, 400 m / 100gr) and mohair lace (Da’Lace de Arco Iris Yarn, 420 m / 50 gr) for MC ; and mix of single fingering (Cigale from Les laines du Scarabée, 400 m / 100 gr) and mohair lace (Bombyle from Les laines du Scarabée, 420 m / 100
gr) for CC.

You will need between 150 and 220 meters of MC and between 70 and 120 meters of CC (for each strand if you work with a mix fingering + lace) according to size and final length of the hat.

• Circular needles 3.5 mm (or any size that gives the right gauge), circular needles 2.5 mm for ribs edge.

• 1 marker (+ as many markers as you need for the repeats of the motif pattern).

Sizes

43, 46, 49, 52, 55, 58, 61 cm of head circumference.

Measure where the ribs edge goes: forehead + ears + neck.
Subtract 3 to 5 cm to your measure and choose your size to get a rib edge that fits close to the head.

Three first sizes are more children sizes and graded as it. But you can lengthen them if needed for an adult size.

Gauge

34 sts x 42 rows in ribs 2/2 (in the Row with 2.5 mm) = 10 x 10 cm AND 1 motif repeat width x 2 repeats height = 7 cm x 8 cm, washed, blocked and dry.

It is important to get the right gauge to obtain the right size.

Encore un modèle avec un drôle de nom !
J’adore discuter avec ma team de test, et nous blaguions sur les noms bien moches que je pourrais donner à mes prochains modèles, car voyez-vous, je trouve ça très drôle ! L’une d’entre elles a proposé le Velu, j’ai trouvé que cela allait à ravir à ce joli bonnet/béret tricoté avec du mohair.

Tricoté du bord côtes vers la couronne, il met en avant un joli motif de point brioche qui donnent l’illusion de torsades allant jusqu’en haut du bonnet. J’avais envie d’un bord côtes bien large pour accentuer la forme béret. Il est affublé d’un petit ajustement front pour épouser parfaitement la tête. La forme béret est obtenu en ajoutant une répétition supplémentaire du motif, si on la retire, on obtient plutôt une forme bonnet slouchy.

Ce modèle contient :

• un ajustement front (pour que le bord côte reste à sa place)
• un ajustement chevelure dense

Matériel :

• Fil : épaisseur Sport.

Le modèle de base est tricoté avec un mélange de fingering (base Love sock de Les jolies de Milie, 400 m / 100gr) et de mohair lace (base Da’Lace de Arco Iris Yarn, 420 m / 50 gr) pour la CP ; et un mélange de single fingering (base Cigale de Les laines du Scarabée, 400 m / 100 gr) et de mohair lace (base Bombyle de Les laines du Scarabée, 420 m / 100 gr) pour la CC.

Prévoyez entre 150 et 220 mètres de CP et 70 à 120 m de fil de CC (dans chaque fil si vous tricotez fingering + lace) selon la taille et la hauteur du bonnet.

• Aiguilles circulaires 3,5 mm (ou toute autre taille vous permettant d’obtenir l’échantillon) + aiguilles circulaires 2,5 mm pour les côtes.

• 1 marqueur (+ autant de marqueurs que de répétitions du motif si vous en avez besoin pour la partie à motif).

** Tailles :

43, 46, 49, 52, 55, 58, 61 cm de circonférence de tête.

Mesurez au niveau de la zone où passe le bord côtes d’habitude : front + sur les oreilles + dans la nuque).

Choisissez votre taille après avoir retiré 3 à 5 cm à votre mesure afin d’avoir un bord-côtes à aisance négative qui tiendra bien au front.

Échantillon

34 m x 40 rgs en côtes 2/2 (en rond et en 2,5 mm) = 10 x 10 cm
ET un motif de large x 2 motifs de hauteur (en rond et en 3,5 mm) = 7 cm x 8 cm lavé, bloqué et sec.

Il est très important de respecter l’échantillon pour obtenir la taille attendue.
