Leaded Light Socks
Note - a top down version of this pattern will he available by the end of the year. Please PM me if you would like to be ear burned when it is released.
We all have it in our stash, don’t we? That skein of very bright variegated yarn that just said ‘buy me’ because of the beautiful colours, then we get it home and have absolutely no idea what to do with it. This is the perfect solution to your problem. A pair of stranded socks using one solid colour and one variegated yarn to create a very striking pair of socks. This is the closest you can get to ‘vanilla’ on a stranded knit and once established and you have worked up a rhythm, the socks will just fly off the needles.
The socks are knitted toe-up. Instructions are written for magic loop. The short row toe, the heel and the cuff are knitted in the main colour with a contrasting yarn being added to the main body of the sock.
The pattern provides useful guidance on knitting stranded socks, elasticity and how to choose the correct size, so a good pattern to if you would like to try stranded knitting for the first time. The sample sock is knitted using a variegated yarn and a black solid yarn (which is knitted as the dominant colour), creating a leaded light window effect.
Two different size needles are used to ensure the tensions of the plain sections and the stranded sections remain constant.
