When I was a kid, my Dad built a beautiful wood, lattice fence around our back patio and the garden that surrounded it. I remember him working on it one summer when I was maybe 5 or 6 years old. He built it from scratch, stained the wood, placed every wood slat, and hammered every nail into place. He took great pride in his work. The flowers and vines that grew thereafter were steady, strong, beautiful and intentional. Funny how memories can manifest themselves in knitting! I hope you have as much fun with this knit as I did!

Leaf & Lattice is a two color crescent shaped shawl knit top-down and has a knitted on lace border. The main body of the shawl contains 4 lattice sections, separated by bands of contrasting color. The lace border of leaves is knitted onto the completed shawl body seamlessly.

This project was a collaboration with Bad Sheep Yarn! Two samples were knit, both with Bad Sheep Yarn Sport weight yarn. The shawl with the green border was knit with the colorways Botanist for the body, and Echo for the accents & the border. The shawl with the teal border was knit with the colorways Mountain Tundra for the body, and Impressions for the accents & border.

You will need 328 yards of a main color/MC sport weight yarn and 600 yards of a contrast color/CC sport weight yarn to make this shawl. Or, roughly, 1 skein of sport weight (measuring at least 328 yards) as a MC, and 2 skeins of sport weight for the CC lace border.

This sample was knit on US size 7

Gauge - 11 stitches and 14 rows / 2 inches in unblocked stockinette stitch

The shawl measures about 20 inches down the center back and about 52 inches at the widest point. These dimensions are indicated in the photo on page 8 of this pattern.
