This pattern will show you how to make a leaf bag as a small purse or as a larger tote.

For the smaller leaf bag, you’ll need less than a skein of green worsted weight yarn (I used I Love This Yarn in Dark Olive) and less than a skein of brown worsted weight yarn (I used I Love This Yarn in Brown). You’ll also need a small amount of worsted weight yarn in an accent color. The bag is worked mainly with an I (5.5 mm) hook, although the strap uses an H (5.0 mm) hook to help keep the stitches tighter. You’ll also need a tapestry needle for assembly and weaving in ends. The body of the smaller bag measures about 11” long.

For the large leaf bag, you’ll need 2 skeins of green extra bulky yarn (I used Yarn Bee Effortless Super Bulky) and less than a skein of brown worsted weight yarn. You’ll also need a small amount of worsted weight yarn in an accent color. The bag is worked mainly with an N/P (10.0 mm) hook, although the strap uses an J (6.0 mm) hook to help keep the stitches tighter. You’ll also need a tapestry needle for assembly and weaving in ends. The body of the smaller bag measures about 17” long.
