This pattern is for a short-row, garter-stitch cowl knit sideways, in two colors, and joined with grafting or 3-needle bindoff when it is big enough to go around your head.
You can choose DK or worsted weight yarn, depending on what yarn you have available, and after the provisional cast-on, work it until it is big enough, then join it together. This takes a small amount of yarn ( I used less than 100 yards of each color), so it can be a wonderful way to use leftovers and play with colors.
