Leaf Buds Shawl
This short-row garter stitch shawl is knit flat sideways and uses German Short Rows to create “leaves”, while slipped stitches make the i-cord top edge.
It can be made as long or wide as desired, but basic instructions are given for a convenient size, between a scarf and a shawl. I have used 2 colors of linen yarn for a summer shawl, but have also enjoyed knitting it with fingering weight and sport weight yarns ( such as Spincycle for leaves and fingering weight merino for the frame). You could also use a worsted weight combination for a larger shawl (like Noro Silk Garden paired with Malvinas with a size 8 needle)
Choose two yarns with high contrast for best graphic results and have fun watching the colors change!
This pattern has been test-knitted and edited, thanks to my wonderful test-knitting friends.
