This little leaf of a cowl is a wearable meditation on birch leaves.

Like its name-sake leaves, it’s compact, light and lovely, with clean lines radiating from a center column. With just a few stitches in back, it can be worn comfortably under a shirt or jacket. The cowl pattern has options for small and larger sizes.

Pattern takes about 65 grams of Worsted yarn. Two samples show how solid or tonal yarns will work beautifully for this pattern.

  • Onyx Fiber Arts Worsted in the Mari colorway (a glowing yellow)
  • Berroco Comfort in Spruce (dark green)
  • One skein of either of these yarns is plenty.
  • Variegated yarns are not recommended, since they can obscure the slip lines.

Enjoy this quick little leaf, wonderful for so many seasons!
