Leafy Lace socks
Get ready for warmer weather with a light, airy knit! These lacy socks incorporate two different, yet complementary leaf patterns. The main lace panels on the front and back of the leg feature a triple leaf motif. A single leaf pattern trails down each side of the leg and onto the foot.
Both motifs are 12 rows long, making it easy to keep track of your place in the pattern. Although only one size and ‘configuration’ is given in the pattern, you can easily adjust the size of the sock by using a smaller needle for a smaller sock. Or, if you want a larger sock, add an extra panel of the Triple Leaf chart to the back of the sock (adjusting stitch counts as you go).
Size: Womens Medium. The lace pattern provides quite a bit of stretch, so one size fits most. A stretchy cast on for the cuff (as described in the pattern) will accommodate larger legs.
Materials: 325 yards (297 m) of fingering sock yarn 3.5 oz/ 437 yds (100g/400 m) or similar, 1 set of 5 US #1 (2.5 mm double-point needles, or size needles required to obtain gauge.
Skill Level: Intermediate. Knitters should be familiar with knitting lace and sock construction. The lace isn’t complicated, however there are 2 different charts to follow.
This sock is knit from the cuff down. The instructions reference the sole and instep stitches rather than specifying needles, allowing you to use your preferred method (4 or 5 needles, magic loop, 2 circular needles). Each pattern repeat is approximately 1” long. If you wish to add length to the leg of the sock, add the appropriate number of pattern repeats and adjust your yarn requirements accordingly.
