Leafy Mitts in Super Bulky
Add a little foliage to your wardrobe! These are quick finger-less gloves with a simple lace texture pattern. Unlike most super bulky mitts, these have thumbs! These gloves knit up in a snap and add a touch of whimsy to any cool weather ensemble. The leaf lace pattern is simple and adds some texture to the mitts. This is an easy knit, suitable for a beginner with a bit of experience. This is a plus size friendly pattern.
Also take a look at the matching one-skein beret style hat in my Ravelry shop.
Some Notes:
- With the given gauge, the gloves measure about 9’’ long, with a snug finger opening for 7.5” to 8’’ palm, and a cuff that snugly fits a 9” circumference forearm.
- Left and Right are knitted the same way. Thumb hole and lace placement do not change.
- Exact gauge is not essential – just be close to 9sts x 10rows = 4”x4” or 10cm x 10cm
- In the round, using the magic loop method for circular needles or dpns
- Knitted bottom up – cuff first for a better fitting while in progress
- Original was made to fit a chubby arm – may produce a loose fit. Wrist is NOT fitted. To fit the hand, start the palm ribbing before the thumb hole.
- If you need to really increase the size, you could add stitches in the double purl column without affecting the lace pattern. Remember that you may then need to decrease more sts for the finger opening. In the given gauge, 1 st is approx. 0.5” or 1cm.
- For a looser finger opening, leave out the last set of decreases in the palm ribbing.
- The lace pattern could easily be substituted with stockinette or another plain stitch. If you would like a plain glove, simply omit the lace parts of the pattern and replace them with stockinette etc.
- The sample used 1 skein of Lion Brand Hometown USA. Lion Brand Hometown USA is a soft acrylic yarn with a little fuzz, so the lace is not very open, but does make a nice texture. Any super bulky yarn should work, with needles to create desired gauge.
