This is a pattern for a leaf that can be used to put a newborn baby in for the purposes of taking photos. It is approximately 16 inches/40 cm long, which should fit most newborn babies. Also included are patterns for two hats that can be used with the leaf, or indeed just for wearing out and about. One is a very cute hat, based on an acorn. The other hat has a flower on it. The flower is made separately and sewn on, so can be used to decorate anything. You could even make several and scatter them about for the photo. Also included is a small blanket as some parents prefer their newborn to be covered or partially covered.

This pattern was inspired by my Mouse Sleepy Head pattern, which is available free and this little mouse would also make a lovely additional accessory when photographing a newborn.

The main yarn needed is chunky/bulky weight. I used James C Brett Flutterby for most of the pattern, but any chunky/bulky yarn would work. I was able to make the leaf, hat and blanket from one 100 gram ball of this yarn. The flower is made using very small quantities of double knit yarn.

The pattern includes both UK and US terms. The UK terms come first and then the whole pattern is repeated with US terms, so please be aware if you print off the pattern that you should only print the pages you want so as not to waste your paper and ink.
