Leap Right In Shrug
This design was inspired by my Leap Year Wrap pattern. I wanted to use the same stand out cabling used in the wrap, but the focus was on creating a staple wardrobe piece, perfect for wrapping around me, & snuggling into on cold winter days. I’m more than happy with how it turned out & have worn it most days since knitting it. One of the bonuses of the way it is constructed, is that if you get a bit warm when sitting in an armchair, or traveling in a vehicle, you can easily slip if off. No contortionist movements required!
CONSTRUCTION:
First, a flat panel is knit, which is then folded & seamed to create an armhole. The garment can then be finished (or not!) as follows:
a) After seaming armholes wear it as an open, casual vest
b) With sleeves, but without ribbed band.
c) With sleeves, & the addition of the ribbed band, which is knit in the round after the flat panel is seamed.
Sleeves are quick to knit, beginning at the armhole (sits near the elbow when worn) & knit in the round, down, with options to decrease as you work towards the cuff, or not.
SIZING:
The nature of the construction process means that by following some very simple, included modification instructions, this design can easily be made to fit anyone not within the (4) size ranges detailed above. Full guidance is given re modification, & be encouraged, this is a VERY EASY pattern to modify.
Please note that yarn quantities above, are for knitting DK weight yarn, double stranded, as I did with the design sample. Half the total length estimated would be required, if substituting yarn & working with a single strand of (a super chunky) yarn that will give you gauge.
