Learning to Read is not a traditional knitting pattern. While it will give you full instructions to be able to knit a project (in fact two projects), the object is different: to help those who find it hard to read charts and/or knitting shorthand.
The pattern comes with a second document, a detailed “cheat sheet”, a walkthrough of the same pattern. By going through a small project step by step it offers a way to learn by doing instead of just watching/reading a generic explanation. By accompanying the necessary information with a concrete example it will hopefully be much easier to learn the necessary skills and know-how so in the future no knitting pattern should feel daunting or too technical.

Yarn - Drops Cotton light (can be substituted with any similar weight cotton yarn), any colour, 41 g/86 m

Needles - 4 mm, straight or circular for textured headband and minis or DPNs for lacey headband (or size to get gauge)

Gauge - 21 sts and 28 rs/rnds in 10 cm in stockinette

Size - about 50 cm circumference (adjustable - see instructions for details), 7 cm wide (textured) and 6 cm wide (lacey)
