Update May 2023: I have graded the pattern for 9 sizes (teens and adult women ranging from XS to 5XL), including estimated yarn amounts.

This is my absolute favorite cardigan. I made it using cashmere and it is a delight to wear in spring, summer or early autumn. It is actually quite easy to make, despite the complicated look of the lace. So I recommend it even to beginners who have already learned the basics of knitting.

The body of the cardigan is knitted in one piece, so the leaf-shaped lace texture is not broken over the shoulders. The sleeves are elbow-length, but I included instructions for making them longer.

#sizeinclusive
The pattern includes instructions for 9 women’s sizes, ranging from XS to 5XL. The cardigan is intended to look oversized, so the instructions include built-in positive ease of approximately 25 cm / 10 in (this means that the finished cardigan is going to be larger than the body size that it is meant for).

All my patterns are using Calibri font size 13 in black on white, so they are accessible and easy to read on different screens and when printed. All abbreviations and acronyms are explained in the pattern.

Skills needed: Knit, Purl, Yarn Over, simple decreases (left and right), picking up stitches along the edge, seaming knitted pieces together. The body is knit flat, while the sleeves can be knit either in the round, or flat.

Tools needed:

  • circular knitting needles of 3mm (11 UK / 2 or 3 US);
  • crochet needle size 2 mm (US B1, UK 14); this is only to pick up the stitches and (optional) to make the edge neater; otherwise there is no crochet element in this cardigan.
  • tapestry needle to sew the sides and weave in the ends.

Materials needed: DK or sport-weight yarn; from 1500 metres / 1650 yards (XS size) to 2850 m / 3050 yds (5XL size). Approximate amounts for each size are included in the pattern.

The lace pattern repeat is also illustrated in a chart (in addition to detailed written instructions).
