The Leaves on the Nile Shawlette is simply that…leaves floating on a mesmerizing blue river. In this case, the leaves are showcased in 2 diamond-shaped groupings of upside down leaves on the center panel of this modified triangular shawl which is worked from the top down, beginning at the neckline. The 2 mirrored panels on either side are highly textural because they are worked in a mosaic stitch pattern, while the border features a garter feather and fan lace pattern that forms scallops along the bottom of the 2 side panels. I switched to a contrasting, deeper blue yarn for the feather and fan section to make it appear to be an undulating river running along the bottom of these panels. For this project I used 2 skeins of yarn. For the main color, I chose 1 skein of Madelinetosh Pashmina Merino Wool Blend sport weight yarn (360 yards per skein) in Blue Nile, while I did the contrasting stripe in Malabrigo Silky Merino Wool Blend DK weight yarn (150 yards per skein) in Mares. The shawlette is short and sweet at five feet long end to end, and 23 ½ inches deep. Full written instructions, row counts, and charts are included in the pattern.
