Leggerissima Veil
Leggerissima is a crescent shaped veil or capelet with traditional Shetland motifs - beautiful ferns, roses, diagonal lines, bird’s eyes and trees, finished off with a beaded edging.
The shape is 3/4 of a circle, or you could have a semi-circle or a full circle simply by changing the number of repeats. As a Bridal or First Holy Communion veil it can be either pinned to the hair or attached to a comb. I have called the veil Leggerissima which is Italian for ‘featherlight’, as my veil weighs only 28g (without beads) or 36g (with beads).
What you will need: 2 skeins x Heirloom Knitting Cash silk in White Shine (793yds per 25g). The veil uses 904 yards or 826 metres of gossamer yarn approx.
2mm circular needles o Stitch markers for placing between sections, one a different colour (special marker)
Tapestry needle o Sharp scissors
Gutermann Rocailles 9/0 (28g pack) beads in your chosen colour.
There are 529 beads used in my veil.
0.65mm crochet hook for adding beads
Finished Dimensions: 85” x 19” approx.
