Legs--Long and Good to Look At
Sandra Cisneros, “The Family of Little Feet”, House on Mango Street
These ribbed legwarmers hug rather than slouch, unlike so many designs of the eighties, providing warmth with shape. Worked up from a flared bottom, the ribbing provides stretch to accommodate the shape of the calf. Worked to knee height, they are great under wider legged pants. Knee high or higher, they can be worn with skirts as well. A row of eyelets allows you to thread through ribbon or elastic (or both) to keep your legwarmers up.
MATERIALS:
heavy worsted or aran weight yarn—150-175 yards for knee high, 225-250 for over the knee
2 yards 1” wide ribbon
1 yard elastic (anything ½” to 1” wide will work)
#10 needles for straight or circular work
Tapestry needle
GAUGE:
3 stitches per inch in stockingette stitch
SIZE:
10 inch circumference stretches in rib pattern to fit up to a 15 inch calf; custom knee high or over the knee length.
SKILLS NEEDED: work straight or circular, CO, knit, purl, YO, k2tog, p2tog, BO.
